Enactus is a community of students, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better and more sustainable world. It endeavours to bring about positive change through entrepreneurial action. Enactus NMIMS ASMSOC was set up in 2014 and currently we have a team of 60 students.
At present, we have two operational projects:
- Project Bhog
- Project Neev
It is an initiative of harnessing the power of food for transforming the lives of economically or socially backward youth of the country. We aim to generate sustainable means of livelihood through vocational training and skill development in the Food and Beverage sector. We provide culinary training to the underprivileged youth at IHM Dadar and other star hotels of Mumbai like ITC Maratha, The Leela, Hyatt. This is a very rigorous, industry-oriented training in cookery/bakery.
We reach out to our beneficiaries through extensive Recruitment Drives in slums areas of Dharavi, Kherwadi, Aramnagar etc.
After the core competency training in culinary sector, we provide them basic soft skills training which is needed to make them employable at their workplaces. The project provides them with assured opportunities for livelihood; either through employment at big establishments like Westin, He Said She Said, Courtyard by Marriott etc or by entrepreneurial ventures with support of our incubator support.
We recently spearheaded our efforts into a completely different direction, rolling out Project NEEV. It aims at turning around lives of uneducated, domesticated women by imparting them skill training.
They turn discarded glass bottles into gifting and lighting solutions which go out to be marketed in the urban segment and all the profits go back to these women. Such aesthetic products hold a high value in the market and hence ensures substantial sales and financial independence for these women.
We have Swayam foundation and Trishul NGO on-board for providing the training centers for a cohort of 15 women. Our very first pilot of 20 products fetched 10 of these women income of Rs. 300 for a 2-hour work session. This forecasts a minimum income of 6000 per month and 72000 annually for capitalizing their idle time.
We also help them setup markets to sell such products and thus create entrepreneurs who can be self dependant. This would not only help them realise their potential but also make them confident and help them utilise their potential in an apt manner.
We are proud to say that Project Bhog got recognition at various levels. From newspaper coverage to winning awards, it fetched it all.
We were featured in the coveted DNA news.
The most recent new coverage took place where Zee business media house highlighted our projects and operations and the 15 minute episode solely devoted to Enactus NMIMS SOC was aired on 3rd September, 2016.
Starting with our awards and recognitions, we won the Mahindra rise Grant which bagged us Rs. 40,000 which is quite extraordinary at college level.
We were adjudged first prize winners at Tesla, IFMR, sri city in Andhra Pradesh where we competed against many reputed MBA colleges of the country and were awarded Rs.15,000.
We came runners up at Ipreneur, social B plan competition at the respectable Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS) and were awarded Rs.30,000 for the same.
We added another feather to our hat with Collaborations with the industry’s BIG names like IHM Dadar, The Leela and ITC Maratha.
10+ NGO’s have already joined hands with us, to name few, Kotak Education foundation, Antarang foundation, Swayam, Trishul, Masoom Night Schools, JNS Vasai, Dharavi Ngo forums.
For Project bhog, we have tied up with Premium restaurants and bakeries like Tea room 17, chef Ranveer brar’s English Vinglish bakery, Tote on the turf, He said she said, dominos, etc.
To conclude, this was only a stepping stone to the big vision that lies ahead. We intend to make this year even more fruitful with a fresh team and novel projects.
